Ted Bundy
Do you know who Ted Bundy is? I didn't know until I saw a
film a few days ago and at the end of the film, I read it was based on a true
story. After that, I look for some more information and I found a documental of
his life. Let me introduce him and tell you who he is.
Ted Bundy
was a 1970s serial murderer, rapist, and necrophiliac. He was executed in
Florida's electric chair in 1989.
Ted was born in
Burlington, Vermont, on November 24, 1946. He was an illegitimate child, To
hide that fact he was raised as the adopted son of his grandparents. Bundy grew
up in a working-class family. He showed an
unusual interest in the macabre at an early age. Around the age of 3, he became
fascinated by knives, and he started began to mutilate and murder any animal
that he found. As a teenager, he liked to peer in other people's windows.
He hated his mother in secret since his childhood. Ted repressed his
personality and was forging a strong power of seduction. This power of
seduction was the only thing that concealed his true intentions and his
devilish mind.
He graduated
from the University of Washington with a degree in psychology in 1972. He
had been accepted to law school in Utah, although he would never earn his
degree. When he started to study in law school his behavior
changes. He went from shyness to confidence, to having a domineering and
leadership character. He started a relationship with Stephanie Brooks, he completely
fell in love with her, but after 2 years she broke up with him. Stephanie
becomes an obsession to Ted, he sends anonymous letters trying to
convince her to return to him even while his new relationship with Meg Anders,
a divorced woman, started.
His first
victim was the young Joni Lenz who was assaulted in the room of his
residence. After a brutal assault, she managed to survive but with
irreversible brain damage. That same month he kidnapped another girl from the same
campus, her remains were found dismembered a year later in a nearby
forest. During the following months, crowds of girls continued to
disappear without a trace. His victims were always young college girls, with
white skin, attractive, with black hair and parted hair in the middle, exactly
the same appearance as his ex-girlfriend.
The police began to link all the murders. Some witnesses described Ted's physique, but it was impossible to find him, as he constantly changed his appearance. He modified his hairstyle, grew a beard, or shaved. One day his girlfriend, Meg, noticed that both, the wanted man and Ted, were driving the same car and that at home he had crutches and a cast.
His first arrest occurs on August 16, 1974, in Utah, after a woman identifies him as her possible abductor. They sentenced him to a year in prison in the Colorado prison but managed to escape before arriving and disappeared for several months. During this time, he continued to commit more crimes and began to make mistakes. On August 16, 1975, a security guard stopped Bundy while he was loitering in a residential area. During the search of the car, he found some handcuffs, a pickaxe, a stocking, a balaclava, several meters of rope, and pieces of a white sheet.
On February 23, 1976, the trial against Ted for attempted aggravated kidnapping begins. He thought he was going to get away, but he didn't. The judge sentenced him to fifteen years in prison with the possibility of parole. During the break from a new trial, Ted managed to escape. He was missing for about six months. His freedom ended on the night of February 14-15, 1978 when a policeman ordered his car to stop after realizing that he was driving strangely. The police identified him and arrested him.
In the trial, the decisive evidence was a mold of a bite that matched his teeth perfectly. After several hours of deliberation, the jury found him guilty of the murders of two girls on July 23, 1978. The judge suggested that he be sentenced to the electric chair. After a second trial, Ted confessed, he said: “The serial killers we are your children, we are your husbands, we are everywhere. And more of your children will die tomorrow "
After his death in the electric chair, the media headlined the news: "The Animal Died."
